2019 A Scarecrow Competition

Scarecrow Competition (New in 2019)

For the first time as part of Galleywood Festival 2019 we held a Scarecrow Competition inviting Galleywood folk to make a scarecrow and display it at the front of their property for others to enjoy.

Older members of the community will remember making scarecrows as children with parents who used them in vegetable patches; or seeing them in farmers’ fields. Scarecrows have been used for thousands of years, worldwide.

Making a scarecrow is relatively easy and affordable. It is something that most families can take part in without a large budget. The appearance of scarecrows in front gardens and in public spaces should create an element of surprise; a talking point; and an opportunity to display street-craft for all to enjoy.

What do you need to do?

Enter the competition by downloading the Entry Form (.pdf) or Entry Form (Word) and Competition Rules This will ensure that the judges view your scarecrow and consider it for an award.

The scarecrows were made and displayed  from Sunday 2nd June until Sunday 9th June 2019.

Prizes and certificates were awarded by the judges. Their decision is final.
